HtmlSnap is an ActiveX component that can be used to convert text, HTML, or MHT (Web Archive Format) files into pictures. However, its main use is capturing webpages into snapshots. It exports many functions, which can help you customize the output pictures and choose the parts of the webpage that you want to capture. Other miscellaneous functions are also exported, allowing you to get the HTML content of the page you are capturing. Event handling is also available.

Supported output formats are BMP, JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIF, TGA, and PCX. Vector image formats like EMF and WMF are also supported. The output picture can be further customized. For example, you can set the method, the compression level, the color depth, or the resolution of any snapshot. Creating thumbnails of the captured images is done by using the resize feature of the ActiveX control (SetThumbSize(…)).

This ActiveX component is very well documented. A help file is copied to your system upon installation. This file contains reference information about the use of each part of HtmlSnap. Samples written in several kinds of programming languages are also included with the component.

Pluses: In my opinion extensive documentation must be provided with ActiveX controls. The publisher has done a great work here.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: A fully featured ActiveX control that can be used to capture webpages or their content into customizable snapshots.

How to Use Polestar Virtual Printer

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

IIt has a tiny interface which lets you install or uninstall the driver for the virtual printer, make a printing test or read the help menu. It works just as a real printer. Just right click the needed file and choose the print command. If you don’t have any other printer installed, Polestar Virtual Printer will automatically recognize the file and it will ask where it should save the file and in what format. After this the file will be converted. If you have another printer installed, you will have to choose first the virtual printer, and after this Polestar Virtual Printer will recognize the file.
